Happy

It’s been three months since I moved to New York.  It was the dead of winter three months ago and I hated my new home.  Three months ago I hated school and though I was doing the wrong thing by being here. It was three months ago that I looked everyday for a plane ticket home, looking at my schedule, and trying to find a way to get home, and be with the people who loved me.  It was two weeks ago when I realized i'm where i'm suppose to be.  I started my first bakeshop, and I’m learning how to make bread.  It defiantly isn’t what I want to do with my life, but it makes me happy.  I realized I was happy on the second day of my Hearth Breads and Rolls class.  I was standing there looking and a bin of flour I was about to mix into dough.  I placed my hand into the flour, grabbled a hand full, and sifted the white power through my fingers.  At that moment I thought to myself "this is where i'm suppose to be.  This is what makes me happy”.  It was only three months ago that I almost came home and made the biggest mistake of my life.  I never would have known what it feels like to be as happy as I am right now.  I am so lucky to have my family, being there for me everyday, telling me that I could do it, and they were proud of me, believing in me even when I didn’t believe in myself.  I’m proud of what I have done, getting though one of the worst winters in a decade, being away from home, and doing well in my classes. Now I know I can do anything,

Two Months Later

Hello everyone I finally have time to write for the first time since I moved to New York.  I got here and had a really rough time adjusting and finding my groove.  After a couple days I got the hang of things and started enjoying school.  For my first six weeks I had business classes (Math, Writing, Gastronomy, Product Knowledge, and Food Safety). Some classes I really liked and the others not so much.  Two weeks ago I stared Principle of Design (Art) and Baking Ingredients and Equipment Technology.  I have loved my classes this block.  In POD there have been many projects that I've loved, I learned that I really do like art and I'm really not that bad at it, my favorite thing that I've done is the Block Print, it was basically making a stamp and using it (pictures of that day are below). It is very interesting learning new things daily that I will be using in the bakeshops and really for the rest of my life.  I have one more week of the classes I'm in right now then I will be in my kitchen classes, I can't wait!

Tarzan

Last night Maddy and I went to go see Tarzan for the third time.  I mean how can you not take advantage of a student discount of ten dollars a ticket for an awesome show.  I love this show and would see it over and over again, but sadly the student discount was only for September :(  One thing that bugs the tar out of me is when people leave right before the bows.  The reason this irritates me is because these amazing actors and actresses have spent a lot of time to make such a AMAZING show and to leave before the show is over just so they can get to their car first so RUDE and DISRESPECTFUL!!! Even just staying and seeing to the end, walking out, and getting home, really only takes twenty extra minutes. Just stay and be respectful what is another twenty minutes at that point anyway?

Fireworks

I know this blog is for my culinary information, but I want to keep everyone updated on what im doing in collage so here it is. Tonight I had a chance to go see behind the scenes of a full production of a firework show.  My uncle Jeff does pyrotechnics and helped set up a show tonight.  Before the show he showed us how they lit them off and where everything was set up, it was really cool.  Sitting about a hundred feet away we watched the show.  This was such a cool experience.

The Objective

This is my new blog that I have put together to show my progress in culinary school.  My mom will also have a blog where she will be trying to do what I am doing at school. It should be a fun little project to track not only what I am doing but to see the two different products that will be produced. So every so often check my blog then hers and see how different or similar our products are for that day/week.
